General Purpose

We require an experienced HR / HSE Manager to join our team in Lusaka. The HR / HSE Manager provides a clear and compelling vision within the HR and HSE area.

S)he will report to the Managing Director and will be in a hybrid role which consists of Human Resources and Health & Safety.

The Human Resources / HSE Manager will be responsible for the following

Human Resources duties :

  • Developing and administering human resources plans and procedures
  • Planning, organizing and controlling the activities and actions of the HR function.
  • Work closely with all Directors and Managers to understand the requirements of the business and build a reliable relationship with them
  • Provides pragmatic HR advice to Directors and Managers on day to day operational matters (law, procedures, employee relations matters)
  • Responsible for attracting, motivating and retaining the most qualified talent
  • Support the managers with the attraction, recruitment, selection and retention of top talent.
  • Conduct effective induction and orientation sessions
  • Identify and assess future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual performance appraisals and consultation with Managers
  • Draws an overall and individualized training and development program that addresses needs and expectations in order to enhance the effectiveness of the workforce
  • Monitor and evaluate training and development program’s effectiveness, success periodically and report on them. Resolve any specific problems and tailor programs as necessary
  • Recommending new policies, approaches, and procedures
  • Support the development of strong communication and feedback channels to ensure high levels of employee engagement
  • Health, Safety and Environment duties :

  • Provides pragmatic HSE advice to Directors and Managers on day to day operational matters (law, procedures, guidelines)
  • Primary point of HSE competence, ensuring all employees at all levels are aware of legal obligations and are kept updated
  • Create, maintain and improve where necessary HSE policies and procedures
  • Produce timely and consistent statistical and analytical reports
  • Ensure appropriate training and awareness programs are delivered where required or appropriate
  • Act as primary contact with 3rd parties such as the HSE related regulatory bodies
  • Provide workable solutions to HSE challenges whilst also driving a program of related continuous improvement
  • Advise and support in the investigation and reporting of accident, hazard and near-miss events, providing result generating corrective / preventive action where required
  • Ensure robust audit, inspection and assessment programs are conducted to validate and improve both legal and business standards
  • In order to be considered for this exceptional opportunity, it is essential that you have previous experience in both Human Resources and Health and Safety role as well as the following :

  • University degree in Business or Human Resources Management or related field
  • Internationally recognized HSE diploma
  • Professional membership of Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management
  • Excellent knowledge of data analytics and HSE risk assessment
  • An excellent team player
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal) and intercultural skills as well as high level influencing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize your own work load
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observational ability
  • A confident, self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision
  • Highly IT literate with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
