    Bioenergy definition : We define bioenergy as a source of energy derived from farmland, forest, manure and municipality waste or energy crops for electricity, heat or transport.

    About you :

  • We are seeking a GIS Analyst for the bioenergy team.
  • The biggest benefits of this role are, having to contribute to shaping the potential bioenergy market in Zambia by defining the scope and potential for growth in this sector.
  • You are multi-skilled with a quantitative background for the position of GIS Analyst and able to discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping, developing mapping applications and tools and managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
  • GIS Analysts will need to explain geographic trends and findings from their analyses to clients, requiring excellent written and verbal communication.
  • The biggest challenge of this role will be multitasking and completing documents to adhere to international client-ready levels.
  • The current team around this role is made up of a bioenergy feedstock experts, strategic planning & business development, project funding, household / medium / large bioenergy experts, demand expert, gender / social / climate change experts, government procedures expert, monitoring & evaluation and behavioural change communication expert.

    About the Role Main purpose and scope of work :

  • The main role of the GIS Analyst in the Bioenergy Program team will be working at the intersection of data analysis, programming and cartography.
  • The primary duties include analysing spatial data through mapping software and designing digital maps with geographic data and various other data sets.

    Duties and key responsibilities :

  • Analysing spatial data through the use of mapping software.
  • Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data.
  • Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources.
  • Creating shapefiles to merge topographical data with external data by layering external data over a topographical map.
  • Producing maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including crime statistics and hospital locations.
  • Developing mapping applications and tools.
  • Converting physical maps into a digital form for computer usage.
  • Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form.
  • Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
  • Managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
  • Required Qualifications / Minimum Requirements :

  • BSc degree in Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years work experience.
  • 2 years work experience as a GIS Analyst
  • Worked for 2 organisations (>
  • 2 years’ experience with each).

  • Working knowledge of MS Excel Formulas.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word Styles.
  • Working knowledge of MS PowerPoint Shape Formatting
  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
  • Proficiency with front end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages.
  • Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS and Carto.
  • Experience with GPS measuring tools.
