Bioenergy definition : We define bioenergy as a source of energy derived from farmland, forest, manure and municipality waste or energy crops for electricity, heat or transport.
About you :
We are seeking a GIS Analyst for the bioenergy team.
The biggest benefits of this role are, having to contribute to shaping the potential bioenergy market in Zambia by defining the scope and potential for growth in this sector.
You are multi-skilled with a quantitative background for the position of GIS Analyst and able to discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping, developing mapping applications and tools and managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
GIS Analysts will need to explain geographic trends and findings from their analyses to clients, requiring excellent written and verbal communication.
The biggest challenge of this role will be multitasking and completing documents to adhere to international client-ready levels.
The current team around this role is made up of a bioenergy feedstock experts, strategic planning & business development, project funding, household / medium / large bioenergy experts, demand expert, gender / social / climate change experts, government procedures expert, monitoring & evaluation and behavioural change communication expert.
The team, in general, describes themselves as passionate, adaptable and ultimately, capable.
About the Role Main purpose and scope of work :
The main role of the GIS Analyst in the Bioenergy Program team will be working at the intersection of data analysis, programming and cartography.
The primary duties include analysing spatial data through mapping software and designing digital maps with geographic data and various other data sets.
Duties and key responsibilities :
Analysing spatial data through the use of mapping software.
Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data.
Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources.
Creating shapefiles to merge topographical data with external data by layering external data over a topographical map.
Producing maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including crime statistics and hospital locations.
Developing mapping applications and tools.
Converting physical maps into a digital form for computer usage.
Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form.
Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
Managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
Required Qualifications / Minimum Requirements :
BSc degree in Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related field.
5 years work experience.
2 years work experience as a GIS Analyst
Worked for 2 organisations (>
2 years’ experience with each).
Working knowledge of MS Excel Formulas.
Working knowledge of MS Word Styles.
Working knowledge of MS PowerPoint Shape Formatting
Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS and Carto.
Experience with GPS measuring tools.

Problem solving skills
Writing skills : Demonstrable skills in written communication and proven report writing skills to international professional standards.
