Job Description

The USAID Let’s Read Project is committed to providing a rich and robust set of both print and digital resources and face-to-face support for teachers, coaches, school head teachers, PCSCs/PTAs, and community literacy leaders, including the Youth Reading Corps. These interactive, grade/ECE level appropriate resources must help teachers improve instructional fidelity, refresh and invigorate their practice, and better understand the needs of their students.

 Essential functions include (but not limited to):  

  1. Following marking and branding guidelines for all assigned files
  2. Standardizing design layout in all assigned files.
  3. Ensuring uniformity of font size and type, including overall format style in all files allocated.
  4. Ensuring all illustration replacement, adjustment and manipulation where possible and advise where such changes cannot be made so that fresh illustrations can be drawn.
  5. Ensuring overall appeal of final documents for the target readers.

Reporting and Organizational Relationships:

Reading Materials Development Specialist




Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Arts or a related field.

 Skills and Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience developing and or editing graphics 
  • Experience in using InDesign and Photoshop software
  • Strong organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills; 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Detail-oriented and organized; 
  • Must be able to work within a cross cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function well under pressure; and
  • Willingness to travel to provinces covered by the project.


Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of (and proficiency in) Cinyanja, Chitonga, Silozi, Lunda, Luvale, Kikaonde and Icibemba languages highly preferred.
